I have a 1993 that quit running and won't restart.
I codes are 31, 33, 35 and 37.
All gauges still work and the check engine soon light is on.
When I check in the GM service manual after all tests are done failure leads to the CCM.
I have not done any of the tests because I don't have the tools.
I was wondering if anyone new how much it would cost to have the CCM repaced and reprogramed.
I don't have the tools to reprogram so was thinking that it has to go to a GM service center....right?
Any helpfull advise would be appriciated!
Thanks
If you don't have time, or tools, to fix stuff, it's still good to know exactly what's wrong, so that when the dealer explains stuff, you can cut thru the
Anyway, a multimeter costs about $10. You can rule out LOTS of stuff with one - especially if you have a shop manual.
The mileage needs to be programmed within 100 miles of installing the CCM, I am not sure of the consequences if that is not done. Entering mileage requires a Tech 1 or Tech 2 scan tool. Your profile is not filled out so I don't know where you are located , if you are near by I have a Tech 1 and can do it for you.
When you say the car will not start, do you mean the starter does not crank the engine or it cranks but will not fire?
Just did some reading in my 93 service manual and it looks like there is more to the programming than the mileage, it must also be programmed for the correct VAT's key, and other options that interface with the CCM. (I'm guessing FX3 suspension, climate control?)
The book indicates if the mileage isn't programmed within the 100 mile interval it can no longer be set and will start over at zero, which just so happens to violate Federal law unless you place a notification sticker on the drivers door.

Reason: additional information
As I continued to look in to this problem I have more questions.
After noticing that the codes were from history and had to do with the instrument cluster, Bose, lighting and other I decided to clear them. After doing that, no codes come up but car will not start. I pulled the #2 spark plug to check for spark and found that it will spark but only once, If the key is shut off and then try again it will only spark once again. I will be purchasing a new battery for my digital ohm meter today so I can get an accurate read on my injectors (first used a needle type) and will also get a gauge for fuel rail pressure.
If all gauges, Bose, controls and lighting work correct is it safe to assume that the CCM may be OK?
If I cleared the codes and crank the motor for over 15 seconds should any new codes appear?
If fuel rail pressure is low, will it shut down the system?
What will cause a spark plug to only fire once? (every time ignition is reset - turn key off then back on it will spark once will turning motor over)
Seems way more likely to be an Ignition Control Module, coil or Opti problem. Use your FSM (book two, chart A3, pg 6E3-A-26 ) to trouble shoot for a no spark condition, low fuel pressure will not cause loss of spark, good luck.
The CCM is in a bad place and would probably cost a bunch to replace.
The VIN and Mileage and VATS must be programmed with Tech 1.
They probably don't have a CCM anyway or wouldn't want to do the job.
If you have the manual, why don't you go through the Diags on the CCM?
It only takes a paperclip.
Then go through the tests that turn on the outputs of the CCM and see if they work. You can turn on seat belt lights, honk horn and all other things the CCM controls. You do all this from the DIC pushbuttons. If all that stuff works your CCM is probably OK.
I think there are (Three) fuses for the CCM also. There is also more than one fuse for the ECM. (I think there are three).
Outside of the VATS system, the CCM has less to do with the car starting than the ECM.
To check if it is a fuel delivery problem: spray (for about a 7 second count) some ether into the throttle body (let it close after you spray) and see if the engine cranks up and runs for a few seconds. If it does then check for propper fuel pressure, injector pulses, and ohm out those injectors for correct resistances. If it doesn't start....look for other non fuel delivery related problems.
