Default open loop, cold idle problems....

I'd just like to know if anyone else has gone through the same problems-and what worked!!! It wasn't until winter that I ran into this-car cold with outside temps down to 10deg. F. On start up it would idle real low and stall out when you put it in gear and just touch the throttle.
I've gone up and down on the open loop a/f ratio vs. coolant temp with some improvement. Now I've gone to the cool. compensation spark vs. load. It's just frustrating as I can only tune once or twice a day-after it warms up I'll have to let it cool all the way down again to attempt to tune the lower temps! :cry At about 40deg. C coolant temps on up I've got it idling good open loop; it's just the real low temps that I seem to be chasing my tail on lately. (I could just enable the stall saver-but I'm trying to dial it in without that.)
Any input/ experience with this greatly appreciated!!!!

Do you have any log files of the start-up? If so what format? I can rwadf datamaster and diacom. Send me a copy to titan@sybercom.net. I would like to look and see if I can offer any ideas.

Later,
RJ

I'm using diacom-I'll try to get a log of it later today and send it. Had another thought  I could try using the wideband o2 sensor to get a better idea of cold start a/f ratio; as the stock o2 sensor is useless at first when it's cold. Anyone tried that? How long does a wideband have to have power before it's accurate?

Have you tried fiddling with the idle rpm ? Are you using the 89 programming ? If you are, send me your bin file and I'll take a look at it. Whats the specs on the cam your running ?

Yup, tried idle up and down-settled on 800rpm. Cam is 226 and 222 at .050 with lift of .494 with 1.6 rockers and 114 installed at 110. Flat tappet. Planning on a roller cam next-but the $$$ are having to go to a dana 44 swap first! Another question-my vac. is only 11 to 12 at idle of 800rpm with this cam-granted I'm at 7000ft. elev., but does that seem a little low? I've already checked and double checked for vac. leaks with propane etc.-none. It is the 89 code. Today I had a lot better cold open loop idle after increasing the spark advance in the cool comp. spark vs. load table-tomorrow I'll drive down the hill and see how it does at lower elev. Thanks for the idea's and I'll e-mail the files to ya'll in a bit.

This may not help, but look at your IAC count. Possibly set the minimum idle air. (or minimum air idle, wich ever it is called) It helped alot on my 92 (aftermarket cam based on an LT4 hot cam). It would idle super low while in gear and cold. I noticed that the IAC count was at 160. I opened the throttle plates alittle and this helped me. You are probably 10 steps ahead, but this is all I can offer for now. Good Luck!!

Yup, already adjusted it so the iac's about 20 to 30 warm at idle. Just an update-at lower altitude (about 1500ft) at idle the vac is 16! Always knew there was a diff. but its been a long time since I did a comparison and didn't realize it could be this much a diff. Just makes tuning more fun!
