Default Custom EFI Idea

I have done some EFI Conversions in the past but I have been thinking. Has anyone come up with a conversion that runs on 8-6-4 concept. I am thinking it should be based on load and anytime there isn't a 20% or better throttle request from the TPS than the ECM uses logrithms to determine if it needs 8-6-4 cylinders to acheive the proper power. It would also rotate the cylinder it powers like the Northstar limp home mode they used when the coolant leaked out. I had a buddy who blew a hose on his and it worked AWESOME he said it didn't ruin the engine and he drove 100 miles home with NO coolant. I just think this technology could be used to keep our cars from getting hot when cruising and that we could drastically improve MPG if we did it. I have a C3 I would like to upgrade but thought you guys might have a source?
Some newer cars have a similar technology which got me to thinking.
-Thanks,
Charlie

The northstar shuts off the spark intermittly and used air and fuel to cool the engine if you shut off fuel it will go lean and melt stuff

But if you have coolant running through the engine normally wouldn't the air charge be enough to keep it cool?
If your not adding fuel to the fire wouldn't it run cooler?
Also, the cylinders could be run off the front and back 2 cylinders for a time and then switch after a given time to the center 4. The 6 cylinder would be a bit trickier.
I have a buddy who works at a Dodge dealer and the 5.7L Hemi's run a system to drop out cylinders in the 300 when on the highway if the power isn't needed. It is seamless to the driver. He said they actually close the cylinder off with the valves and don't run fresh air through it. He thought it was odd and obviously not practical for a small block chevy

I assume it would cool it as long as no fuel is left over in the cyl if there is any fuel in the cyl it could give you a lean condition and cause more heat and you would have to remove any EGR from working during the cyl drop due to HC in the exhaust could cause a lean condition

You can't go lean if you 'shut off fuel'. If you don't have fuel you don't have combustion. Without combustion you don't have any potential to go lean. The factory rev limiters work by shutting off fuel.

Well...
Why won't it work?
Does anyone know how to make it run?

I don't see why you couldn't make it work. You'd have to shut off fuel and spark to the cylinders, but that seems like it would be within the capabilities of the computer. I don't have any idea how to make it happen, but it seems plausible at first glance.

At a minimum, you'd need a sequential-fire system. Ideally, you'd want coil-on-plug, too, to be able to interrupt individual plugs from firing.

However, I think this would be less effiicient than running all the cylinders unless you can keep the valves closed (or open, I guess) on the cylinders you're not using. Otherwise, the pumping losses would be a total waste of energy.
