Default wheel tire choice

hey guys ive spent the last 15-20 mins searching the forums and found some good stuff but i just need a very straight forward or even a 'rude' answer to this ?

can i put 17 X 9.5 wheels with 275/40-45 tires on the front and 17 X 11 315/35 tires on the rear of my stock 89 with no mods or hassles in the future

That's the size (275/40 x17 315/35 x17) I have on my 86 without any problems.

I also have an 86' with that tire setup.

The 84-87's have a different wheel offset, than 88+, so I had to get a wheel specifically for my car. Your 89' has a much wider range of Corvette wheels that will simply bolt right on.

Just food for thought, if you run the same size front and rear you can then rotate them front to rear for better wear

I have that wheel/tire setup on my 93. It looks great, but I have had chronic OC problems with my set up. Just make sure that you make your purchase from a trusted vendor....

Or better yet, buy from the classified section on this board. My story has been documented on this board... you could do a search for the details....

What the difference between the offsets? I have wheel s from an 88 on my 85 they look fine and don't have spacers. The wheels were on the car when I got it so what had to be done to make them fit?

i have the split combo on my 90 & it has no clearance issues. your only problem will be tire choices. the 315 has a very limited number of choices. the nitto 555 or 555r are the most popular in my area. high HP cars use the R and stockish bolt on cars the 555, and or people who need a few miles & some rain from a tire

I have 275-40ZR17 tires with 9.5 inch rims on the front and back of my 88, stock so front should be fine, and I think 315's will fit on the back, but they'll stick out a bit and as others have mentioned you can no longer rotate them like you could if you had the same size all the way around.

I think the offsets are different on 84-87 cars than and on 88-96 cars.
