Default 4+3 Tranny Question

Hey Everyone I have one more problem with the 4+3 on my 87 L98 It's supposed to have OD in 2nd 3rd and 4th but instead it has OD in 1st 3rd and 4th... this is Neat but real annoying, There is a switch on the tranny that is "Supposed" to tell when the tranny is in first Vs. Second (Already replaced that) my question is how does this switch work and is is possibly a bad wiring problem and if so How could I go About Rewiring it?

Thanks

Their specialty is the 4+3.
Good luck - this tranny is great when it works, but can be very
strange when they act up.

Just a quick question, which switch did you replace? The rear switch on the T-10 side cover? The other switch is back up lights switch. There are a few thing it could be, one could be the wrong switch, get a self powered test light or DVOM and test the terminals in the switch on the side cover, it should be open in first and continuity in netrual and second, if it does the oposite it could be the wrong switch. If it is working correctly then you may need to check the wiring in the shifter switch there could be a chance it is getting shorted out while you shift it into second, this sounds strange but I have come across things like this in the past it's only a momentary contact switch to ground and if the harness gets shafed and grounds on the shifter while it is moved it can give you some strange happenings. The only other thing I can think of is the wrong PROM in the ECM one for an auto again I have seen this before and the car will run but operation of the O/D will be strange, and will act just like a lock up converter, but I would suspect the incorrect switch, there is also another possibility but seeing how you have not said anything about excessive shifter movement in first and second I've kept it to last I have seen a number of shift shaft that go through the side cover, brake were it is welded to the inside lever which may throw of the aligment of the flat spot on the shaft giving a false in gear position, I don't think this is the case but did add it just in case.
