Is there an definative way to determine which differential my 96' Coupe (auto) has? I suspect it's a Dana 44 or 36 but would like to confirm which one. At the same time, I want to find out the gear ratio.
Re: Which differential does my 96' <auto> have? (H8RADAR)
Rich, all C4 autos came with dana 36. Check on the underside of your console door for code GM1 (which is 2:59 gears), GU2 (2:73) or G44 (3:07). If you think the rear has been changed to a dana 44, you can look at the back top of the carrier cover. The 44 has 3 bolts across the top while the 36 only has 2.

Its definitely a Dana 36 unless its been changed. Look in your glove box and get your option codes. I think G92 was the performance axle option (3.07 gears in the auto). Someone else can confirm the option code and ratio. But you definitely have a 36 if its stock.

My understanding is that the G92 rpo just means that you have the performance option. You will also have either GU2 (2:73) if your car is a vert, or G44 (3:07) if your car is a coupe.
