Last night I asked about the fans on my 88 vette. Checked and they work. But when the temp still goes over 200 and you shut it off you can not restart. Whats really werid is when I came home today I went out in the garage and the car did exactly the same as being hot. no start. Walked away for about 10 minutes, turned the key and started right up. The fan came right on from start up and I let it run for about 20minutes and the temp went over 200. Shut it off and tried to start again and no start. As soon as temp dropped below 200 it started again
Any ideas please.
the fan may continue to run if the air conditioning is turned on.
without air flowing over the radiator, if you sit in one place without driving the car, the fan becomes the wind, the car will tend to warm up till the other fan comes on. Then if the fans keep the car at 200, it might be normal in the summer. depends on ambient temperature.
my injectors acted wierd over 200 degrees. Then I changed them, and voila! no more issues.
I also had a starter that was worn out. when the starter got hot, the plastic brush holders held the brushes off the commutator, and the starter wouldn't work till it cooled off, allowing the brushes to get contact.
Also, if it cranks, but no start, you might need a distributor module. I once changed one for that very reason, runs cold, quits when hot. Pull a spark plug wire, insert a 4" long 1/4" diameter screw into the plug wire, plug end, hold it 3/16" away from a grounded surface (exhaust manifold, alternator bracket, etc.) and have someone crank the car while it's a no start, and see if you have spark.

If you are saying no crank no nothing, and then after 10 minutes it starts, it could be some kind of odd VATS issue. I would bet it's an electrical gremlin of some kind. My VATS was deciding on it's own to start blowing the horns with the car running, so I bypassed the damn thing.
I had VATS problem with my 88 also.. I got a bypass from MAM and have been running ok with it plug in. Mine had been just once in a while, then happened more and more till it finally just quit starting.
My buddy at the Dealer said, most of the time the Ign swithc/key doesn't read the keys pill/resistor correct and causes the no start problem.
