Trying to locate fuel rail bolts for my 1996 LT 1. The Corvette Mechanics Manual indicates they are Nm 10 bolts. Calling the dealer I am told they no longer have any of those bolts listed. I need to know what Nm 10 stands for and how long the bolts are in length. I assume the means metric, but I might be wrong.
Without having an FSM handy, I am guessing along the same lines as pianoguy. It is likely that your manual is telling you to torque those bolts to 10 Newton-meters.
If your manual is, or is similar to, the Factory Service Manual, then I have noticed very little reference made to the actual size of a fastener when it is being pointed out. It is maddening to guess wrong and have to crawl out from under the car for a different socket.
I have an L98, so I can't be of too much direct assistance, but if you can find another LT1 in your area, or if you have at least one of the bolts you need, you can get it sized and get a direct replacement from a fastener company. I just did this with a rear brake mounting bracket bolt. The dealer's computer shows they have it, but when it came in, it was the wrong size. I was told "That's what the computer says you need".
I ended up going to a store called "Fastenal" ( http://www.fastenal.com/ ) , and they ordered the bolt I needed. It cost less than $1 for a high strength bolt, and it arrived in a couple of days.
With a Mopar background this one has always puzzled me, Chrysler lists sizes for all fasteners in the service manual, diameter, length and thread pitch, GM has none!
I notice GM does list sizes for some fasteners in the parts manual, but not all. I tried looking these up for you and could only come up with a PN for a fuel rail fastener "kit", 17089152, unfortunately when I search the number on GM Parts Direct it is no longer listed, sorry.
You might try asking Jon at FIC injectors, he is very helpful and knows plenty about anything related to injectors, good luck.
I have no idea why you do anything or what fasteners are on your car.
I have no idea Why you have 8mm bolts there or what is on your car but I have yet to find a 8mm bolt on my 93 but a whole lot of 10mm ones. Maybe the General changed the bolts when the rails changed from batch fire I dunno. My bolts are black too not silver.
Seems to be some confusion regarding bolt size designation, the size of a bolt or nut does NOT refer to the size of the head or socket that fits it, rather it is the diameter of the threaded portion.
A 6mm bolt typically has a 10mm size head, an 8mm bolt would typically have a 13mm head, and a 10mm bolt would usually have a 15mm head, but the head size can vary as can the type, (hex, allen, torx etc.).
The other variable that must also be specified is the thread pitch, just as our English style fasteners use USS and SAE thread, metric fasteners can have different thread pitch as well.
Then why do I use a 10mm socket to take it off. You may be mistaken.
the tool size used to install/remove the fastener (in your case 10mm wrench or socket) has nothing to do with the bolt size. the 8mm size refers to the (major) thread diameter of the bolt. typically, bolts of the same (thread) size can have different head styles, sizes, etc..

Yep you are right I thought about that this morning.

The #17089152 has been replaced by #17113545. I don't know what the OP needs for fasteners but I'll find out what the contents of the part #'d package and be back tomorrow evening.
The replacing part# is ONLY for a single fastener and I believe it's the screw that attatches the pressure regulator!
