Default Finishing up header install.

I finally got time to install some used TPIS I got a while back. This was a fun easy project! It didn't take long at all. I ended up putting the drivers side on from the bottom, it just fit real easy that way. Same for the passenger side but I did have to remove the starter.

I thought the worst part of this was cleaning the gasket surface of the heads. The dipstick came out easy. I attached a rope onto the bracket and ran that over a beam. I leaned on the rope while my father used a torch on the block and bottom of the tube. Once it was hot he just turned it back and forth with a round pliers. It came right out. I cleaned it up, painted it, and re-installed it with locktite. No leaks so far.

I found the TPIS headers weigh ten pounds while the stock manifolds weigh 6.5 pounds. The stock manifold ports were real small at 1.25" and have the large air tubes sticking in the top of the port.

I made a vid of the open headers:

I'd buy used headers in a heartbeat; can't go wrong there. Do you have to re-route from the collectors on back, or can you use existing pipes?

I ended up getting that pair for just the cost of shipping. They were cracked and I spent some time fixing all the cracks. I hope they do not crack again but we shall see.

I removed the whole stock exhaust and am having a local welder bend up new 2.5" dual pipes. I will make a new video of that in a few weeks.

Edit, drove the car off to the local shop. I idled the car for a while and checked for heat, the bottom didn't get that hot. There wasn't any trouble driving the car with open headers.
