Default Distributor conversion, what will I need.

I still don't know anything concrete about my timing problem yet, but I've been wanting to do this for a while anyways.

I've got a brand new distributor that was setup to go in an '87 L98 trans am. I think these are know as external coil distributors, right? What would I need to convert from what I have now on the '85, to the new model?

A conversion harness.
They can be purchased online and they are "plug and play".

You can make one. That is what I had to do as there were none when I did my small cap distributor conversion many years ago.

You will also need the external coil of course.

Pull the dist at set intervals to monitor gear wear and mesh.
Don't forget to observe the same on the cam's teeth while the dist is out.

Here's what I've been dealing with:

for an external coil, I suppose the new msd blaster I have on my '87 T/A would work?

He can supply you the HEI to small cap harness (PnP) and the dist coil plug with a long pigtail to the coil.
Good pricing
