I have a '93 that I've modded to a 383 and installed Exotic Muscle long tube headers, no cats. The rest of the exhaust from the collectors back is OEM, the stock resonator and mufflers. I know that the stock pipes for the LT1 flow pretty good, but I'm wondering about restrictions in the resonator and factory LT1 mufflers.
I was wondering if replacing the resonator with an X-pipe and installing some less restrictive mufflers would help pick up a few more ponies.
Does anybody have Magnaflows on their Vette? I saw some with the stock LT1 tips that I like and seem like a good price'
There is no restriction in your resonator. You may pick up a few ponies with some mufflers but likely some resonance to go along with it.
Do you have any resonance between 1500-2000 rpm now?

This is the exact setup I have on my LT4 (minus the 383)...although I do have the Magnaflows on it (#15623 - the 3" version). I've kicked around the idea of adding an x-pipe but really don't see/feel the need. It seems to flow damn well as is and sounds mean as hell.
Luckily for me my car is a '96 (OBD2), so here in AZ all they (emissions test) do is plug it in and check for any codes. If I had a '95 or older (OBD1) I'd be screwed cuz on those model years they do a complete emissions test and they'd pick up on the "no cats" real quick.
I put the exact same ones (LT1 tips) on my 93 LT1. Sound better than stock but not annoying. Had to have then welded to keep the correct position of the exits.

I thought the entrance pipe was kind of dinky on those(~2" or less at the bend), so I sent them back. Also the tips hung too low, but mine is an 88. I don't know if the bumper cover on a 91-96 hangs lower, it may.

Like Jeff, I went with the new 3" Magnaflow system w/ x-pipe for my 96CE/LT4.
I couldn't be happier.

Dude.....That is one of the sharpest C4's I have ever seen......

I cut-open the resonator on my '95 last summer and took the following picture. I cut the resonator along its length and folded it open. After seeing what was inside, I replaced the exhaust on the '95 with an H pipe; on my '96 I went with a X pipe.

No resonance now with the stock resonator and mufflers

ah yes, the good old expansion chamber.
I removed this off my mustang and gained almost 3 tenths at the track instantly.
(never gut yer cats and put them back on, this is what it creates and will in effect slow you down, hence, expansion chambers on a mustang, 4 of them)
The stock resonator may well be a restriction(I stand corrected).I have an SLP and a B&B resonator here you can stick your hand through. No restriction on those.
