Hello everybody!
I found an ad for a C4 that caught my eye, but I can't figure this one out. Ifyou guys can possibly help me, I will travel to buy this vette. Here is the ad:
No pictures yet (kids will help me later) My corvette had a blow out when my daughter and I were driving down the road. We took off the wheel and had another tire put on and when we put it back on the car - nothing- no idiot lights no ding ding. It has a 350 LT1 engine and runs great before the flat. I don't know maybe it is a sensor? The only thing missing is the radio, it was stolen. This is a fun car and was my dream car when I bought it 4 years ago. It has 112,000 miles on it.
She is asking $6,000. Any ideas? Thanks everybody. Tom
Whatever it is, it can't be a big issue. Something to do with the security system most likely. Bad battery, bad battery connection, bad starter motor, etc. are all possibilities too. No new engine should be needed for this.
Trying to stir the pot for ya'. I'm not famaliar with the lt1s, so I'm not much of a help.
I would suggest checking the battery first to make sure nothing got left on and drained the battery, then I would disconnect the battery if it is charged and then reconnect it to see if anything resets, you didn't mention year but if it has the passive entry remote the battery may be dead in it and won't let the car exit security mode. Good Luck.
I would also tend to think it is a batt cable. With no power to the car it must be part of the main circut or the bat. Since the car worked fine prior to the incident I lean toword and batt or it's cables. I have had similar isues and changine out the old bat cables fixed most of my problems
So this is a 92-96 car with 112K miles that doesn't run for unknown reasons. If it did run, it would be a $7-8k car assuming there is nothing wrong with it with that mileage. If you believe the story, then yes probably something like a battery or other simple solution, but there could be a lot more to the story. I don't think $6k is enough of a bargain to make me jump into that messs.
I personally find these kinds of ads very scary. How does a flat tire lead to a no-start condition?? When someone is trying to sell something and claims that they don't know what the problem is and it should be a simple fix "maybe a sensor or something" - I can't help but ask myself, then why haven't they fixed it. Claiming ignorance of the problem or product can often be used as a defense when the buyer finds out what they really bought and the seller can say, "Well, I told you, I don't know much about this stuff" - I'd be very cautious and do some serious inspections/testing before making an offer. I think there is more to the story...
I would wonder if the dead battery is just masking the real problem like they got the flat tire from a connecting rod being blasted out of the side of the block thru the tire. What year is it

This is very good advice, the story seems to be a little fishy, lots of vettes for sale that are running great to bother with one that does not run.
It sounds like it could be simply a VATS issue, but then some of the dash lights would have come on. If they are asking $6K then offer them $5k if you otherwise like what you see.
