Just recently my oil pressure dropped below 7psi and the red light came on. I changed the filter which seamed to be clogged. My pressures are now better but still have me scared. Idling it will usually hop around 15-27 after the engine is warm. 2000 rpm it will hop around from 25-45 when I come to a stop it will hop around the 20's and dropped a few times to 8-11 psi then jumps back to around 45 when accelerating.
This has me extremely worried and I stopped driving the car because of it.
Does it sound like my oil pump going out or maybe a clog of some sort? I recently bead blasted the valve covers and I though I did a good job of removing all the glass beads but i believe that is what was clogged up in the filter when i changed it after this problem started.
The most likely culprit would be the Oil Pressure Sending Unit. These do occasionally go bad and sometimes do exactly what yours is doing.Unless you had a great amount of dust and residue left from the bead blasting I wouldn't think it would be enough to clog a filter. Except for the pressures jumping around it sounds like they are plenty high enough. WW
This changes things, If you had silvery residue in the filter and a oil pressure drop at the same time, it sounds like you have a spun bearing or some other internal failure. Especially if it is enough metal to clog a filter. The only other thing I can think of is if the bead blasting material did infact get into your oil and it was silvery in color and your oil pressure sender went out at the same time, then maybe you would be ok,but it sure sounds like a bearing.(Thanks Schrade for asking more questions)..WW
