Did you also install a new flasher made for LEDs?

Any parts store will have electronic flashers but it would have been easier to install a resistor inline. Some LED conversin kits already have the resistors in the lamp housing making it a true plug and play.

Because the LED's have very little electrical resistance, the existing flasher doesn't see enough resistance to work properly. It's just as though all of the turn signal bulbs are burned out.

Replacing the flasher can be a PITA due to its location.

Just that makes me think twice about LED lights.

I second that - I replaced the flasher in my 85 about a year ago - I could hardly hear the one that was in there - a few skinned knuckles and a krik in my shoulder and the job was done. I'm not ready to go in there again!

Don't crash & burn PLRX. Poping that kick panel is NBD.

Cheers

Was just on FLE-Bay and saw the LED's for 84-90 on sale. Write up says "plug and go" .Glade I saw this thread, saves time if I upgrade.

Love to see the real pictures.

I've been running all LED's front and rear for over 3 years now.

You'll need to wire in a resistor to make the blinker relay "THINK" it still has a full array of incandescent bulbs in the circuit. Check eBay for "LED Resistors".

I just got MidAmerica's catalog, items 638-553 and 638-556. "Simple Plug & Play" The third light looks cool

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++

Light emitting diodes use a series resistor to limit their current so they don't burn out. Most LED's draw only 20 milliamps which means they have relatively HIGH resistance, not ,"little resistance".
The flasher works on current, low current, low or no flash rate, high current, rapid flash rate. You can use a resistor on each side of the brake light circuit to simulate the same current the incandescent lamps draw. Another option is a flasher made to not be sensitive to current. These flashers are for pulling a trailer which has brake and turn signal lamps that parallel the tow vehicles' lamps. OEM flashers will not tolerate this excess current.

It's not that the LEDs have very little resistance, it is that they draw little current. There is not enough current to heat up the flasher and make it function.

If all the bulbs were burned out, you would have infinite resistance. Time to read electricity 101.

I see jfb beat me to it.

Becareful. one of the forum supporting venders was selling these here and found they are NOT plug and play. He did find the required flasher to install and included it and instructions on install. Check out this thread for more details on the flasher needed...http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...ED+tail+lights
