i own a 1985 and a 1995 corvette (both auto tranny) since i upgraded to the 95 corvette i will be giving away the '85 to my father who wants it to rebuild because it needs it and he wants a col daily driver. away way back to my question. the stock '85 auto has a 307 gear (correct me if I'm wrong) the '95 has a 254ish gear (correct me if I'm wrong again) will they directly swap or will they not match up??? if they do will all I need to do the swap are the gaskets and fluid???
The '85 ( at least) could be either a 2.59:1 or a 3.07:1 ratio, assuming it's "factory". Check the RPO codes to see what it is, or count teeth, or However..
I'm not as familiar with the '95, but I expect there were choices there too.
As Automatic cars they are both Dana 36's, everything will interchange. No gasket on these pumpkins - just a swipe of sealant..
The 95 if it is still factory gearing and is a 2 series Dana 36 should be a 2.59. I'm not sure on the swap details, but trust me you'll be much happier if you go to a different gear. I went 3.54 and love it. I know on the newer ones, like my 94, the 2 series carrier and the 3 series are different, so you can't put factory 3 gears in a 2 series car. The aftermarket makes "thick" ring gears for upgrading of the 2 series rearends.
First, on the 95 look for the RPO codes under the lid of the storage compartment behind the pass seat. RPO GM1 is for the standard 2.59 ratio, the only other factory ratio for 95 is the 3.07. The 'chunks' are interchangeable, however the camber brace mount holes on the 85 batwing are slightly smaller. You would have to drill the holes out of one batwing and sleeve the other inorder to swap them out.
