Since you don't have any actual mods stay with stock rated injectors. Going to a bigger injector will just screw up your car. 36lb is totally out of the question. I believe your 1985 is 24 lb but not absolutely sure. Go to a vendor to check actual stock injector. Racetronix is a vendor with new injectors at a reasonable price. Look at the ads in the left margin.

Injectors are like rockers in that most of the gains can be had with going to a high quality unit in good working order. For idle quality, you'll want the injector to be at 90% pulse width at full torque (max VE). That said, without a scan tool to see if you are saturating the current injectors, 22 -24 would be a good range (based on stock TPI and heads). I like FMS and don't like Accel...there are other opinions. You can also get your injectors cleaned to run like new.

1 final point, the injector size needs to match what the chip says, so if you change your injector...you need to change your chip

stock is 22 but they actually put out less. 36 is crazy. My 383 only uses 26's.On a stock engine aftermarket chips are a waste of money, put the original back in if you have it. Before you start shoving more fuel in there(and wasting money) what you need is more air in and a better way to let it out.All this costs big bucks. And leave the ECM alone, there's no gains to be had there.

Call FIC they are a supporter of this forum and give great service. They will answer questions sell you only what you need and stand behind their product.

In addition John gives you his cell phone number to call if any questions arise during install. I called on a Saturday and he answered.

Wat Injector should i use 36lb?
Stock. Refurb originals would be best, otherwise Bosch will make one.

would that give me any more power?
Dumping fuel in it without mods that give you tons more air wont do anything good for that engine.

do i need a after market fuel rail and Plenium?
No.
any ECM work need to be done after that?
For stock no.

what injector is stock? 24lb?
Stock is 24lbs in 1985, though rated at a different pressure than later years.

Hi. I have an 85 too and have investigated a bit regarding injectors.
- The stock injectors for the 85 is 24lbs/h
- The fuel pressure is set to 36psi
- The Prom is calculating the pulse width with this fuelpressure
- The Ecm ensure compensation if the fuelpressure is increased up to a certain part of full throttle and the rest up till ful throttle is there only fixed pulse width based on the TPS position. This means that if you use larger injectors the engine will go rich og vie versa if the injectors are smaller.
Therefore an increase and decrease of fuel pressure or injector size should have a Prom change to ensure correct A/F ration at the upper part of the tps.
There is ofcourse certain margins here you can work with but if you search the optimal you have to change the prom if fuel pressure changes or injector sizes are changed.
To have a large injector with low pressure is worse than having a smaller injector working with higher fuelpressure for the same capacity due to spraypatterns.
Good luck

I learned a lot from Jon @ FIC about injectors. Before, all I knew is they squirt fuel when told to do so by the ECM. Now I'm an x-spirt! Or is that x-squirt?

Buy new injectors, it's time consuming to change them out on a TPI car. Injectors can't actually be rebuilt so why pay near new prices for used parts!

BADDUCK you really do not know what you are talking about. The dealer wanted $1200.00. no warrantee. I spent $169. and got a flow matched set of Bosch injectors. The dealer even said they were nice and will probably offer them for sale. I bought my car new.. Since I put these injectors in it runs BETTER than it ever did. Maybe you should post something that you know about. Its a bad economy out there.. I am just a blue collar guy with kids and a C-4 for sanity. I just spent $2000 trying to get it running from misdiagnoses from real mechanics. Jon hooked me up. If it was'nt for him I would have had to sell the car.
