scan tool for 86
I'm about to start working on my 86 project vette's engine. Thus far I've been replacing broken or beat up parts. Suddenly occured to me that my OBDII scan software ain't gonna get me far.
Looking for recomendations for either PC based or stan alone OBD I scan tool that can also talk to the ABS. Any help would be awsome. Thanks folks.

I have an 86 and so for I have only gotten WinAldl to work when I also ground out pins A+B.
A forum member on here, JoBy, wrote the software and has a diagram for a cable on his website.
As for getting TunerPro or Datamaster to work...I have no clue. But search for WinALDL and that should get you started.
EDIT: I just noticed you said also talk to ABS, I can't help you there.

You probably need a pro-level/cost tool if you want it to talk to the ABS system. Most just talk to the ECM.
On my '90 you can use the paperclip trick on different pins to get ABS codes. I don't know if that will work on an '86

I used datamaster on my 86, I built a cable to interface with my old laptop with a serial (rs-232) port, I tried to build a USB to serial interface but it did not work. You will need to use the 10k resistor in the interface cable. the datamaster software works great, collecting data. I have just about used up my free trial evaluation of the software.
