Default Wheel Studs

I am looking for some new wheel studs that are about 1/2 inch longer than stock. Does anyone know what the thread pitch and knurl dia. of a stock stud are?

Thanks.

P.S> If anyone has gotten some they would recommend please share...

Thanks. I have chrome lug nuts that have a closed end. I dont know if these will fit. Maybe if I cut the non threaded part off those studs....

Just curious!

Why just 1/2"?

Your profile shoes a '90 car and there would be few instances where you might want to do spacers. Measure the exposed length of the threads of yours and post that and I'll give you a couple of options. You could trim the ones that are part#'d for you (22551491) and they're the longer studs by GM but if you actually only need 1/2" more than you've got let's see what you've got!

Do the studs on your car have the "dog point" like those in the snapshot but shorter or NO "dog point"!

I only want 1/2 inch because I have chrome lug nuts that have a closed end on them so a longer stud may not fit. The ones I have came on the car and they have the dog point but the very end of the stud is even with the end of the stock lug nut like the one pictured. There is not much room to do anything. I have 4 17x11 ZR1 style wheels I run when I am racing that fit great but I want to space the rears out more. I just broke 4 studs (not all on the same wheel) and I want to replace them all with something stronger and longer, but not too long so I cant use my lug nuts.

Underhead length is the distance from under the head of the bolt to the end of the stud. Regular hex cap screws are measured in the same way.

Have you thought about getting new acorn style lug nuts that are longer? Gorilla and McGard have lugnuts that are longer and that would solve the stud length problem.

Do you use the acorn nuts for racing? Some associations want to see the stud with the wheels on the car so acorn nuts could not be used in a situation like that.

I use standard open ended lug nuts on my 87 and I can get at least 9 turns on the OEM studs with my ZR-1 style wheels that have a 38mm offset.

I do use them for racing also because right now its all I have. I dont want to have to buy new lug nuts just to accommodate the studs. I dont think I will be putting anything bigger than a 1/2 inch spacer on it anyway.

ARP Part number 100-7708. 12mm diameter X 2.5" long -- fully threaded. I'm just not sure how long the factory ones are, though.

Generic open-end lug nuts for GM cars usually run about a buck apiece at chain parts stores. These nuts have the necessary 60 degree taper for the wheels and the thread size (12mm x 1.5) is common to nearly every contemporary GM car.

If you want some high-strength studs, get ones that are the same length as stock and use open-end nuts for the race wheels.

Some associations don't like the use of spacers for racing or HPDE/track days so you should probably check out what the tech people say about using them. Spacers will put the load of the wheel and the cornering forces that much further out on the studs. Going to a high-strength stud helps, but you still have the load further out there.

These are the ones I was looking at too.

I cannot seem to find any high strength ones that are the stock 1.625" length. Would it be ok to trim the high strength ARP ones?

I have decided to go with the ARP ones and open end lug nuts. However I need new ones but cannot find the GM part number for them. DOes anyone have them?

Thanks
