I have 1988 vette with 110K miles. The mass air flow sensor keeps going bad. I put in about five of them in the past two years. Someone told me to change the burn off relays. I put in one new mass burn off relay about one or two weeks after I put in the last mass air flow sensor and that seemed to fix the problem. Then I replaced the other relay about three weeks later. I had no problems for about a month until this past Friday; the mass air flow sensor went bad again. Do you think I should try putting in two new burn off relays at the same time as a new mass air flow sensor or is there probably some other kind of problem?
I also agree with 65z01: You need to lightly oil the filter or it will creep into your MAF.
You should replace the burn off relay each time you replace your MAF. Early year C4's that use a MAF have 2 different relays for the MAF Power and MAF burn off functions - later years the relays are interchangeable.
If the old burn off relay got stuck and caused the "burn off" function to remain "on" and it burns up your old MAF what do you think the odds are of it sticking again on your new MAF....pretty good and then good bye new MAF. If you have one of the thin filament style and the wire broke/burnt up more than likely it was cause by the "burn off" function remaining on...bad relay.
I myself got tired of buying new MAFs every couple of years and bought one of these Micro Techs. The first one I got was bad out of the box.....which I returned with no problems.......the second, which I'm currently running, is still going strong with no problems.
Good Luck!
