Tire size..........
I have a 92 convertible. Stock 9.5" wheels. 275/40/17's all around. I have read that 93's had 285/40/17's on the rear stock using the 9.5" wheels.
I have a few questions regarding this........
1) How much wider are the 285's than the 275's?
2) Will they fit with no problems? (I assume so)
3) How will the two different tire sizes affect handling / ride performance?

Not sure about what is technically correct, but the difference is insubstantial. Yes they will fit. The tread on the 285 will be 10mm wider, but since it's on the same wheel you won't see all of that in the contact patch. So somewhat less than 10mm is the total difference. While you will have more traction on the 285, you'd need a back-to-back test to actually tell the difference.

I have 9.5" wide rims on all 4 corners. For a short while I had a set of 255/45/17s BFG KDWS mounted on the front. It looked kinda silly, like the tire was too narrow for the tire. I had 285/40/17 on the back. I switched to 275s all the way around of love 'em. I do rub my hood on the bottom side of the fender wheel.
