Default zz4 break in

I see alot of breakin procedures for rebuilt motors, but I havent really seen anything on break in on a new crate motor. I have a new zz4 in and ready but I cant find any info on breakin. The motor had no documentation for break in and I cant find any info on GM site. What do you guys think?

If your leaving the "old" cam bearings in there: pop the new cam in, forget about the break in and hit the gas!

Good Luck!

I see it's not a zz4 cam it's the whole crate motor.......give her a couple hundred miles then let her rip!

You have a roller cam so no need to worry about the 30min @2000rpm to break cam in.
Normal driving ;generally no excessive load ; labouring or very hi revs.

Method we used to use for rebuild motors was drive around; accelerate normally, don't beat on it hard, but in gear vary engine speed. Speed up, slow down and use engine braking to slow the car down and get a load on everything should help seal the rings. Roller cam doesn't need any cam break in time like a flat atappet, so you are good there.

In addition, change the motor oil & filter after about 500 miles of break-in.

I know this isnt the correct way, but I put my zz4 with a hot cam in my car about a month before I went racing. No way could I put 500 miles on my car in a month, so put about 200+ miles per recomendations, varying speed, no lugging, no redline shifts, changed the oil and off to the track I went. That was 4 years ago, 2500 miles, and probably 50 blasts down the 1/4 mile. Motor seems happy to me. (12.51 @ 111 best)
