When I first start when the engine is cold and I get into it. I will here a popping sound and it takes a couple of seconds for the car to go. I have a new GM opti, plugs and wires within the last 8K miles. When the engine is warm it operates as normal

who did the plugs and wires? where the plugs installed with a torque wrench (11 ft lb)?
Presume it did not do this before the the 8k ago parts...
Sounds like a couple of spark plugs are not tight and allowing compression to escape until heat expands and tightens-up the plug -- which would also cause the plug to not fire, so presume the idle is rough at first too, true?
Check your IAC for being dirty. It doesnt take much for an iac to cause a poor idle. Use sensor safe cleaner and DONT push the pintle in when you take it out, and take it out slowly, not to ruin the gasket.
The IAC is the idle air controler, a mini throttle that is opened and closed by a stepper motor controlled by the computer. The IAC is what allows the car to idle while the throttle remains closed. The IAC is found right at the throttle body. The computer takes in many variables to decide how much to open the IAC.
