Okay, I have an FSM, and have been reading it as someone told me a couple of weeks ago that my antenna is supposed to go down when I am not listening to the radio/CD.
The pink wire (perfect color for a mechanic named Laura but that's my sexism talking I'm sure.)
There is a pink wire coming out of the receiver that operates the antenna. Check to see if someone has spliced into it. Also, listen to the rear of the car as an assistant turns the radio on and off to see if you can hear the antenna motor trying to do something.
If you have long arms you can unbolt the antenna from the quarter panel from under the car and see if it is getting power with a volt meter.

Thanks for the info, and if I dont hear the antenna motor, I am assuming that is something else that I will be replacing, correct?

Presume the antenna is staying up all the time...
Based on your cars age, good chance the antenna motor died, or the relay dies, and/or a previous owner unplugged the antenna motor wire because the motor didn't shut off (typical external or internal relay problem with these antennas which drains the battery overnight).

It all helps, now my next question is, an external fix I am sure wont be that bad, but if it turns out to be internal, I just may be in for a lot of headache? Looking at the manual, I cant really tell.

agreed, and if internal, and you want the antenna to go up/down, then just bite the bullet, order a complete new antenna (e.g. eckler's) and check the tech tips for the installation instruction write-up. If your at least a bit handy, it's not that bad a job to do (did ours a couple of years ago)...

Sure does! If I can take apart the center console, and replace the boot, I am sure I can do this, but if I have problems, I know where to go. Waiting for the bushings and links for the front end, as that is my current project.
If you hear the antenna motor but nothing happens that means its just the mast. You can get an antenna repair kit for around 30 bucks. (Ecklers.com) i just replaced my antenna 2 days ago. Got an acdelco oem replacement for $121 dollars shipped off of e---. It took a little under an hour to replace but I have a lift so it made it easier. there is a write up on how to uninstall, repair the mast and reinstall, I printed it out 2 days ago but now i cant seem to locate the link
Okay, I am hearing the antenna motor when the key turns on, but nothing happens. Now what?
Laura
Laura,
The fuel pump makes enough noise to be heard while in the driver's seat when the key is turned on and the sound also comes from the rear cargo area.
Do you hear the antenna motor when you power-cycle the radio? You should be able to turn the key to run, and hear the antenna motor run every time you turn the radio on or off. However, the fuel pump will only run for a few seconds when the key is first turned on.

I have no idea which it was I heard, I had someone turn on the key, and I put my ear down on the car, and heard a hum right near where the antenna is mounted, as the first time I wasnt sure if I heard it of not.
