Is there a way to tell what rear ratio I have in my 88 by checking under the console lid with the options and code #s? Looking at my Black Book I think the car has the Z51 or Z01 Package in it with the heavy duty suspension and quick steering box in it. What would the option codes be for the different ratio's? THANKS FOR ANY HELP Pipe
Thanks for the info I just looked at the Black Book again and saw that G92 is the 3:07 ratio. I wrote down all the RPO's when I was down the Garage mmm has a G44 whatever that is. THANKS Mekanic Pipe
Z01 is an appearance package for 1988. Z07 is an economy package for 1976-1985 trucks. The Z51 is a performance and handling package, that includes several items, but not a rear axle ratio. Any "Z" RPO is a package of some sort, never a gear ratio. Almost all axle ratios carry a "G" designation. However, not all "G"s are ratios. G80 means positraction, G87 means 8 1/2" ring gear, G92 means performance ratio. But G92 is meaningless because the "performance ratio" varies from year to year and car to car. Look for an RPO with a "G" designation, other than the above.
If you didn't buy it new, then the only way to know for sure is to count the propeller shaft turns vs the half shaft turns. New gearing is a popular mod. 2¢
