Default Mass air flow sensor problem

I have a 1988 vette with 110K miles on it. I replaced the mass air flow sensor (MAFS) about five times in the past two years. I think the initial problem was because I didn't know I had to replace the burn off relays. This past time, about a month ago, I did replace the burn off relays and it seemed to fix the issue. I replaced one about one week after puting in a new MAFS and replaced the second relay about three weeks later. The car was fine for about a month. Now the MAFS is bad again. My mechanic can't seem to find the problem. Do you think the new MAFS went bad because I didn't replace both relays at the same exact time as when the new MASF was put in? Any words of wisdom? Help!

Guy,

Go buy one of these MIcro Tech MAFS:
http://www.partsamerica.com/productd...pe=473&PTSet=A

The thing has a lifetime warranty on it! If you burn it up they will just replace it for free.

The way I read it the part is replaced at a pro-rated cost. This means not free. Below is the policy from the website.

Warranty Policy

---------------------------------------------------------------------

General Warranty Policies

PartsAmerica.com will pass on to its customers each manufacturer’s standard limited warranty, if any, for parts.

Warranty return value will be based on the terms of the manufacturer warranty. In some cases, it will be prorated based on the length of use and will be less than original purchase price. Return value will be credited to the credit card used to make the original purchase

Sounds like your frying MAFs, but I must ask; what makes you think they are bad?

I bought this style MAF myself because it doesn't use the filament style burn off wire (the part that always breaks/burns up) it uses the "newer style" film instead. Now the first unit I picked up from the store was bad out of the box.....I returned it to the store and they exchanged it with another one that was also new but (this one worked). I told the sales guy that the reason I was interested in this style MAF is because it has a "Lifetime Warranty"......the guy nodded yes and said "as long as you haven't altered it or cut out the screens.....bring it back and we'll replace it for free as long as you have the original sales receipt". Which to me means "free"!
