tonight I did some preventative maintanence Including taking out the IAC and checking for carbon build up. After I finished I went for a drive and the ASR service light came on as did the check engine light. I figured faulty code so when i got home I disconnected the battery for about ten minutes, hooked it back up and now the car cranks but will not start. I checked coil wire, its good and fuel pump is kicking on. This currently is my only driver since my other is in the shop. I remember a few years ago when I disonected the battery on a 2000 cadillac I had that there was a process to get the computer and key re synced. Is there one for my Vette? BTW it is a 95. Thanks.
fuel pressure is good and iac is tight. I remembered the reset I had to do on the cad. key in ignition on for ten minutes, ten off for ten second, repeat 3 times. I am in the middle of doing that now.
thanks 94z07, it worked!! well actually it didnt. I have the feeling that it is all linked to the aic. I took it back out and checked it. It feels like the motor inside of it is siezed. I can only think that since it is part of the throttle that it may kick an asr code since the system is linked. I have to hold the throttle down about 3/4 and it starts. Atleast now I can run it to my tech buddie to get a free scan!
I bolted it in and then held the peddle down a bit to set it but it would not start. Once I did get it going I stopped it and then held the peddle down until it started, let off, let it idle ten seconds and shut it off and went to start it again but I had to hold the peddle down to get it started. Seems like it wont set, like the motor in it is stuck. It is idling where it should though ut with some oscillation

There is a wire with an inline connector from the battery positive cable that goes to the computer. Instead of disconnecting the entire car, you can shut off only the computer to reset it, at least it is in my 87, I assume its the same for your year.
Actually if there is a VATS problem you can still get certain vehicles to crank, even run for a few seconds so the no crank if it is a VATS problem is a myth. I know this for a fact and have for years. I did have the IAC pintle out at a hair under 1 1/8". The IAC was just old. I went to the 24 hour Auto Zone a few miles away and bought one. I made sure the the pintle was set right and it fired right up and ASR problem gone.

If the VATS system is operating as designed, it will not crank. It is not a myth.
If someone has been screwing with it, anything is possible.
