Re: I just installed Muffler Eliminators!!! (Blue 92)
I'll just take the muffler off my Toyota six and then I'll have pop!!!! I WANT MEAN AND AGRESSIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not MEAN then RICERish! I love the way they sounds on throttle...but off throttle.......not so sure!!!!!!
Re: I just installed Muffler Eliminators!!! (Glock'94)
The pop is a little annoying to me. It's more with cars with headers than muffler elims.
How is the resonance with your elims?????
I didn't like the "pop" at first but just got used to it. It only happens for me in the lower gears. The WOT sound is more than enough to make up for the "pop," imho.
As for resonance, there is some slight resonance in a very small rpm band for me. It's around 17-1900. But it's mild and I don't usually hang out in that rpm range anyway. If I happen to be cruising in 6th on the highway and the rpm is in that band I just turn up the stereo a bit. Again, it's something I very easily got used to.
Re: I just installed Muffler Eliminators!!! (bogus)
If you still have the cats in place it shouldn't pop that much. The biggest problem I have with "Eliminators", actually I have two things. The first is that if you ever go with headers, it will be WAY too loud and you'll have to then hack your system again and put mufflers back.
Second is the whole name "Muffler Elimintors" I guess that's a corvette thing, it would be to tacky to just say that you got rid of them, !mufflers, no mufflers, straight pipes, it just makes it sound silly. By that right, we installed a muffler eliminator on my friend's Dodge Daytona, installed using a Sawzall. Anyway that's just my take on the name, flame me if you want, I'm ready for it. I also noticed that the Camaro people do the same thing, but they call it a cut-out. That way they can cap it back up when they do later mods and don't want it loud ALL the time, but it will still be plenty loud after 3 bolts are removed. If that's too much trouble you can get an electric cutout, which you can control from inside the car, kinda like the power effects system.
As for mine with the headers and flowmasters, you only really notice it popping when you are in the upper RPM ranges. If you drive very civilized you'll never hear it pop. Now for example if you just pushed your car up to 140 and let off the gas, it's gonna pop like crazy. If there is still load on the motor it won't pop that much at all.
Re: I just installed Muffler Eliminators!!! (Marcho Polo)
My '92 auto makes a slight 'burbling' sound on deceleration, until I touch the brakes. Then it quiets down. I really like the burbling. It's never a popping sound, much gentler than that. I really love the sound now.
Have any of you guys with elims ever had trouble with vehicle inspection? I've heard mixed reviews.

there is a bit of boominess for the lower rmps, but once you start crusing it is not that bad... rather quiet, really. less resonance than the factory parts.

Although it shouldn't matter one iota, I did return to my mufflers for NJ inspection. You never know what these guys here are going to be picky about. But I can swap back and forth in 15 minutes so it's not a big deal.
Interestingly, they didn't run my Vette on the emissions dyno, but they did for my Blazer and Volvo.
