I need to know which puller I need to take out the Harmonic ballancer/damper on my 94. Can some one post a picture for me? my mechanic friend needs to see which one to use...
Your balancer looks to be bolted onto the crank hub by 3 bolts, so I don't think you need a special tool unless you're trying to also remove the hub that is on the crank snout.
My balancer had the crank hub piece built in, so it needed to be pulled and pressed on with two seperate special tools that I rented from Autozone. Yours looks like the hub can stay on the motor, while the balancer/crank pulley can be removed after you get those 3 mounting bolts off. I'll let an LT1 guy chime in for sure though.
The easiest method is to use a 4 foot piece of wood( 1" X 2" ) and from underneath the car, pound the Hub/Pully with a 5lb one hand sledge. Give it a couple of good whacks then rotate the hub by turning the 5/8" Hub bolt with socket and long rachet. This will allow equal force around the pully/balancer as you pound away. Should only take a few minutes and the pully/balancer will come right off.
Important : Position the piece of wood on the inner most portion of the balancer, as the Pully/balancer are held togethter with rubber. If you hit the outside of the the pully/balancer, you are very likely to damage the rubber bushing and your pully/balancer will wobble when you re-install.
But this is the best and easiest method to break the years of oxidation built up. Put Anti-sieze on the Hub snout when you go to re-install.
