Default HELP: Rewire coolant sensor connector

The wire for my "Engine coolant temperature sensor connector" is broken at the clip holding the wire to the engine block. The car is a 1995 LT1 coupe. The sensor is on the back passenger side of the engine between cyls 6 & 8. I have a new connector but HOW ON EARTH do I get the wire pulled out of the clip so I can splice in the new connector?

Just cut the wire off, slide the new rubber weather plug on the wire then crimp the new metal pin on and push the pin into the new plastic cover. Assuming this is what you have. http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...5&dept_id=1129

I hate splicing wires to sensors - particularly thermistors wherein the signal (resistance) changes with heat - if you don't get a good splice, you've added resistance to the circuit and the measured parameter will be wrong. Assuming the wire is good, simply crush the old connector with some pliers and then push the original back into the new connector. Make sure the locking tangs on the terminal are extended beforehand; otherwise, pry them out (gently) with a jeweler's screwdriver. The wire should lock into place and you shouldn't be able to pull it back out.

I got the correct tool at O'Reilly's. I just pushes into the connector and releases the pin.
