I had the collant flushed and about 2 weeks and 500 miles later the car starts to idle very roughly. The car also ran hot and the low coolant light came on while driving home from work. The next day I took it back to the dealer who diagnosed a blown head gasket and wants $2,000 to repair it.
Is it possible that flushing the coolant can cause the old gaskets to give out? The car has 116,000 miles and has been driven very little for the past 6 years.
Its ok to flush the system. If you car is an L98, They are all going to blow a head gasket some time. Iron block aluminum head engines do that. Mine L98 blew the head gasket at 144,000. Bottom end was still perfect. If yours has the roller cam set up,(what year c4?) im sure your bottom end is fine.

Mine is a 1990. The dealer says everything looks perfect on the car. Actually I'm beginning to think that the previous owner just drove the car on short trips. (Putting less than 2,000 miles per year over the last 6 years or so). Therefore the engine never got really warmed up. I've taken it on a few 1+ hour drives in the hot Georgia summer so maybe that's why the blown gasket is just now showing up.
Thanks for the feedback. I really love the car and I'll probably go ahead and fix it.
This is a good place to learn to do it yourself. You have one service person who might have caused your problem and another who has diagnosed it as something very expensive. You could do the flush and you could diagnose whether it is a headgasket or not.
Sorry to be a little harsh, but I hope to encourage you to avoid being ripped off in the future. Here is a secret. Many people in auto repair are dishonest.
I've never done a flush nor had one done that didn't cause some type of problem as a direct result. I've been through lots of cars and lots of engines.......flushes are not all there cracked up to be.....no more flushes for me thanks...but to each his/her own.
