Anybody know who made the spring? :) It isn't a big emergency or anything. Mine has aged and isn't as springy as it probably was originally. In fact the bottom about 4/5 coils were all twisted up so I had to snip them off and pack some paper into the hole to make up for the lost length.
I wonder if a spring from a retractable pen will work. :) I'll figure something out.
Re: [4+3]: Return spring for shifter button. (Rich B.)
LOL. No, I hadn't looked it up. Jeff told me a few months ago the only things left were the shift pattern button and the switch, so I never bothered. :D

No, wait...I see in my book there's *two*springs...One is under the nylon block down near the switch p/n 14101389; the other is under the **** and holds the reverse rod down...That second one is the number I gave you...
My 4+3 didn't have any spring under the nylon block; the switch has its own internal spring, and was good enough for my useage...

Romeo -
Mine never had one of these springs. Can you measure length, wire dia, # of coils, outside dia of spring, and post it back to us???
I'm not too concerned, but I know someone with dreams of a NTSC award who lacks one as well... :D
Sure, while I'm at it I'll give ya my first-born :p: j/k I'll try and look at it this weekend. I imagine that previous owners may have dropped this spring into the shaft, accidently forgetting that it goes on top of the reverse lockout lever. Don't ask me how I know this, luckily I had the side panel off to adjust my shifter :) Take your **** off and look down inside the shaft. If this is the case, you should be able to retrieve it with a coat hanger with a small fishook bend in it.

If she can clean house, I'll take her! :D

My side cover & seat are out; all top panels off, too. My shifter is out being inspected & lubricated. My tunnel had broken parts, matches, and cigarettes...but no springs...

Ah, that's not the spring Scorp wants. That one is the number I first posted above - 00371757. That's still available. The other one is *possibly* between the nylon block (slider) and the switch. It's number 42 in the parts book - part # 14101389.
It may not be part of the '86 - '88 Vettes with the switch in the stalk. The parts diagram shows an '84 - '85 console with the switch in the console. The spring is shown in the location where the '86 - '88 switch fits. The '86 switch has a spring in it; GM may have decided that was adequate. (My conjecture).
