Default sending unit

i have installed a new sending unit it works fine outside the car but installed does not work.made sure no wires were catching float,still not working,took it out a third time cleaned contacts,nothing.my fan is not coming on until 230 im sure its the sensor in the radiator but how would you wire it to run with the key on until i get the part

I checked your profile to see what year car. I think 230* fan on is about normal for a 91. The sensor in the radiator has nothing to do with fan on temp. Its a coolant level sensor.

i found the sensor near the dipstick i dont think it is that.fan comes on at 210 then off in two seconds and the temp keeps climbing on for a second then off and never stays on long enough to cool down i thinking it may be ecm.am i wrong or should fan be running if ac is on.the car im working on is a 85 i have been restoring.no not joking im really restoring a 85 vette
