Murphy is working against me again. I just spent about $1k on Optispark, plugs, wires, coil and water pump. Driving the car home from work yesterday and I now have a heater hose leak. This one's a doozie too - $116 at the local Chev dealer!
The hose runs from the Surge Tank to a metal T where is splits to the heater and to the radiator. Much of this big-buck hose is metal tubing.
My question is: is there any performance or reliability reasoning behind the usage of this special metal tubing? Seems like its more a cosmetic issue then anything else. And of course we all get to pay up the wazzuu when the hose fails.
It appears that instead of replacing the $116 hose assy I can simply buy 10 ft of heater hose, and put a T in the middle of it. All 3 ends are hose with hose clamps.
Call 18carfan, I purchased all of the hoses for my 93, including the small 3/8 hoses that are connected with alumium tubing from the recovery tank back to the fill tank, for a little over $100.00. I personally like factory hoses. They seem to fit better then aftermarket. But the bottom line is it sounds like your local dealer is taking you for a ride. Good luck
