Default LT4 Engine Upgrade

I have been wanting to give my LT4 a little more grunt. Here is what I am considering. Comments? Potential CHP?

AFR 195 Eliminator #1031 CC? (not sure what stock CC is)

AFR Springs #8047

CC 503

AFR HYDRA REV Kit

Lifters ?

Pushrods?

I currently have stock LT4 with EM LTs with Random Tech Cats and Corsa Cat Back.

Sounds like a killer set up. I predict just under 400rwhp.

Get 4.10 gears and very wide tires. Seems that the LT4 responds well to 4.10 gears.

I have your current mods right now on my LT4, and am planning very similar ones.

I'm leaning towards ported LT4 heads/intake, the CC503, and Beehive springs with retainers/locks from CompCams. From what I've hears, the lifters and pushrods will be fine with this setup.

What is the Hydra Rev Kit? I've never heard of it before.

Youll need to upgrade to a better ignition system. Stock optis dont like spinning over 6000 very often.

That should wake things up a bit.IMO you don't need the Hydra Rev kit.You won't be spinning the motor high enough to need it.There was a recent post where people had problems with the hydra rev.

Choose a custom ground cam. Have AFR help with the cam selection to work with the heads and the rest of your set up. Or get with the AI people for a custom cam to work with the eliminator heads.

George: I haven't been able to find any threads noting material problems w/the AFR hydra-rev & I've been active in several recent related discussions.

Let me know if I'm missing one.

Thanks- Bart

I believe it was a thread concerning valvetrain stability not specifically an AFR/HYDRA REV thread.Had something to do with a harmonic issue.Someone on here who has a big $$$ engine going pretty fast IIRC.

I like the heads, but the CC503 is an old cam, I would think you could find a much better matched cam to the AFR heads. Also, you won't need the rev kit, my heads/cam LT4 was limited to 6600 and never had a hint of a problem. My current 383 revs to 7000 on a hydraulic roller without a problem...no rev kit.

Make sure you go with 7/16 ARP studs and nice 1.6 rockers (I prefer Crower stainless personally). As for lifters, look at the GMPP LT4 or Comp R, both are very god, however a lot of people have been using the newer LS lifters and getting good results as well. You may need non-stock length pushrods, but I would recommend the Comp Cam chrome-moly rods in whatever size you need.

Yes it replaces the lifter guide bars (Dog Bones) on all stock length lifters.

Comp Cams and Morel both make .325 taller lifters (orginally intended for high lift LSX applications). Now if you try and run them on a std base circle cam in a SBC and use the AFR Hydra Rev... your going to have to use both the factory Dog Bones on the bottom and the Hydra Rev spring locator/guide on top of it. Then your going to have to mill about .400 off the upper spring locator (the alum peice that goes against the cyl head) to get the spring pressure correct. There are good reasons for doing it this way and I'm not going to explain it. Suffice to say my personal engine uses this excact assy of parts (with the Morel lifters)and it worked to 7500RPM.

You must get a nice cam or you will be wasting horse power.

Things I did include:
Cam CC 07-503-8
Rocker Arms CC 1318-16
Springs CC 26918-16
Rocker arm stud CC4505
Push Rods CC 7940-16
Cloyes Double Roller 9-3145
Head Gasket Felpro 1074 (.039 compressed)
Aluminum underdrive pulley ATI-917275
EM long tube headers
Dynatech high flow cats 79-400300
Mez electric waterpump WP118HD
B&B 3" exhaust, mufflers removed
58mm TB Edelbrock 3810
The heads and intake were portmatched to the GM 12367777 intake gasket
Heads were pocket ported
Tuning by PCMforLess

I am still running the stock 350 bottom end... and the modded LT4 heads

If I were to do it again I would be looking the CompCams XFI series such as the 468...I think these have a little better technology in them than the older 503 profile..

I dynoed around 390rwhp....not at all unhappy except I didn't get the 400 I wanted

Before i started having the fuel system issues with my car, i would spin it to 6,000-6,200 RPM's.

My MSD has a 7000RPM pill in it but im **** about taking care of my car. Im not interested in breaking it just to get a 200 RPM's more out of it. Besides, my Hotcam kit pulls hard even down low so shifting early for me is no big deal.
