I am a shadetree mechanic.I have a stock '87 'vette.I enjoy working on my cars but realize my limitations & capabilities.I would like to get a scan tool for my '87.I have read about autoengininuity,obd1,etc.
What would you guys/girls suggest I get for code reading and problem solving.I am not a computer wizard.Thanks for your thoughts.

Shop Ebay for a used Snap-On or MAC professional scan tool. Lots of "older", meaning: not This years latest and greatest, stuff out there at really reasonable prices. Might as well get a Real tool, not some chrome shop toy...
Bear in mind that you don't really "need" a scan tool for OBDI system. Searching the forum here will yield all of the information you need to recover and translate the codes.
The paperclip method works just fine... unless you just really want to have the toys.
