Default Anyone use Pro Built Automatics?

I'm out here on the west coast so I'm trying to find a trans shop not too far away. I'm also trying to find a very strong 700r4 and someone that can setup the trans to compliment my setup well. Their stuff sounds pretty awesome on the website. It is: http://www.700r4l60e.com/

I"m mainly interested in what the faster guys think after putting one of these transmissions through some pretty thorough abuse. My combo is listed below.

Looks like this thread is dropping done the list w/o a response; so\BAA-BUMP

I haven't used PROBUILT, but I haven't seen any probuilt detractors and on the internet that is a rare thing.

Check out F-body .org or Impalass and you will find KUDOS for Dana at probuilt.

I believe some cats on CF have rebuilt their own trannys using kits and advice from Dana.

My tuner "Ed Wright" used to use a PROBUILT A4 on his racecar!

(Im sure others will chime in!)

Dana is a stand up guy. I have purchased many parts from him for my builds, and was pleased to do business with him. He was even kind enough to share a few tricks and secrets with me.
Although I have never used one of his transmissions, I can vouch for his character.

Check out the guys @ Gearstar in Akron Ohio. I had a level 3 4L60 put in my C2, which has a 5.7L TPI engine and 3.54 gears in a C3 rear end. Depending on your engine mod's, you could get away with a level 2 trany. By the way, they ship 95% of the tranys that they build. I was one of the lucky installs that they seldom do.

There's a couple good shops out there. The big draw of this one is that it's close to my house which is rare when it comes to c4 stuff(I live in CA). The cost for shipping stuff has gone up a bunch and I'd prefer to have the shop close to freshen it up down the road.

Pete, that's good to hear. It's good to hear people vouching; especially people that I've spoken to in the past.

It does appear that he deals in many parts and even does how to videos which is pretty cool. I signed up on the forum at his website and posted a couple questions there.

At this time I'm really just weighing my options. The trans on my car simply won't hold the amount of power that I'm pushing now so I'm taking a look at this shop before I grenade everything and have to buy a completely new unit. In addition, the trans doesn't shift to OD at WOT which irks me. The stock torque converter also is annoying since it hinders my times at the track.

I'm probably going to end up selling just the blower kit and cruise around in the car on the motor. I really don't want to get rid of the car, but I could use a couple thousand bucks to pay off the car and eliminate all my debt. But rebuilding my trans and adding a converter.... well the process is never ending!

I've had my trans rebuilt twice. The last time I researched a lot and asked around for the best 4l60e rebuild. Two places were consistently recommended.

Although I have some strong cars running my transmissions, it is extremely difficult to get them to live behind a 10 flat car.
I realize that many builders say they can do it successfully, but I am very curious as to how they do it.
If anyone can pull it off, I bet Dana can, but I sure would love to know exactly how he does.

I have one of Probuilts 700's in my ZZ4 Monte Carlo. Probably has around 30k on it. It takes a beating every time i take it out, and the car goes to the dragstrip quite a bit. I have no complaints. Dana Knows his stuff.

If I remember correctly Dana told me he had F-Body's below 10's successfully running his transmissions. Give him a call. He knows his **** and likes to talk. He lost me when he started talking about the weakness in certain stock components. Something about the alloys and certain dates they were produced.

I can build them to run to that level, but they wear out quickly. At that level of power, they typically are drag cars and are refreshed every season. It get very difficult to build them to run below 10.50 when they are also daily driven. Most do not prefer to freshen them on a regular basis. That is what make it difficult. Getting them to stay together for long periods of time.

Another resource is Mike's transmissions in Lancaster.

I see those tranny's in many of the heavy drag cars and rails.

I rebuilt mine with his rebuild kit and a 9.5 in vigilante converter and can not say enough good things about Dana and his excellent service. He is the FIC of transmissions, along with PeteK. His customer service is amazing - I would call him at 2 in the morning and he was always happy to answer my dumb questions and knows his material so well he could understand what I was talking about with my less than great descriptions. "Er....um, the circular thing that is almost like a bowl and has some rectangular cut-outs in it that are different widths?" - "The sun shell." - "Yea, that's it."

I can't say anything about the longevity of the build and don't have a high HP application (stock engine). But can say he knows his stuff and will go above and beyond to do you right. He is one of the few.

Jonathan

mikes makes some awesome trannies but I don't know how well their 4l60's are(not that they're bad). I'm just looking for something special and top shelf so that I don't destroy it.

Dana at Probuilts helped me alot with my build.I wanted a 700r4 to do 9's and with his help and some parts, after I spent a bunch of money with Monster trans in Fla,Dana fixed me up with info and the right way to build the trans.Dana is not like most trans builders they think they know it all and make excuses when it breaks. In my book he is a stand up guy and he also gave me free parts ,even though that is not the reason to side with him.I know Dana can fix that lag in the 2-3 shift which most builders don't have a clue.
If I was in Kali I would give him a try.

I have heard great things about PRO-BUILT and have talked to Dana at length. Good guy.

Here is another great shop, a little closer to CA in the Chicago area: http://www.finishlinetrans.com/

Chuck Johnson knows his stuff.

To the guys that used his rebuild kit. How difficult and time consuming was it. Dana encouraged me to do mine. I've done a bunch of stuff on the car, I just haven't gotten to building a trans yet. With his rebuild kit is it very easy and just a step by step process?

He was very informative over the phone. He told me of a few nine second cars using his trans which was reassuring considering I'm looking at low 10's. He also suggested a vig converter which is something I need.

My trans currently won't shift into auto at full throttle (we discussed this) and my converter sucks. I'm currently getting a little slip in my converter as well.

I"m still figuring out what to do with the car but if I'm going to rebuild the trans, I'm going to do the best I can which is the pro street elite kit along with a cryo'd input shaft.

If you are going to run 10's with this trans, you will need to know how to rebuilt it sooner or later.Go with what he says.Dana will answer all your dumb ???,and there will be alot of them.I have found that test test test before you install the trans.I also run 2 of the biggest trans coolers you can buy from Hayden to get mine to live longer.
If you run 10 or faster you will need to tear down every year anyway.
The Vig converter is a must if you drive on the street.
I run a 9 inch converter a daco which is ok.I had a vig ,then I went with a manuel valve body and got rid of the lock up.
