Replacing an auto shifter **** only
Got my very first vette two weeks ago. 1992 automatic trans dark red metallic beauty with 87,000. Paid $9500. Already added a bunch of small stuff to it, and next on my list is a new shifter ****. I want one of those carbon fiber-looking ***** but how easy is this to install? I felt around the **** for a set-screw or something but didn't find much. Does the **** button come off first somehow? I sure don't want to take the whole console out like you do when changing the boot as well. I'm getting new plugs, plug wires, serpentine belt and fuel filter done today at the local dealer, just as preventive maintenance. Trans filter and complete fluch next week. Drove it in to dealer today with a light rain in the air worrying about the OPTI all the way(yes, I am paranoid about this device!!!). If I can figure out how to post a pic, I will. Many thanks to the experts here.

The button on the top is held on by a spring. Carefully pry up around the edges and it will pop off.
The handle is held on by a snap ring under the button. It can be a PITA to get off without the correct snap ring pliers.
