4+3 is shifting in FIRST !!! ???

Hey guys,

I got one for ya.... I have 85 with the 4+3 trans. I just did a tune up and changed the trans filter and fluids. Now when I have the OD on it is changing gears in FIRST gear?? Whats up with that? AS soon as I get the clutch out and start rolling in first gear, it jumps into another gear like it would if I were in second gear. I heard it might have something to do with some kick down adjustment?

Im no mechanic by far, (thats why Im here) lol.....

Any ideas whats going on or how to fix this?

An 85 should have a 1st gear switch that lets the ecm know when its in 1st gear.

During your recent service, you may have disconnected the switch somehow.

The switch is one of three that are on the side-plate of the transmission where the shift-linkages enter (driver's side as I recall).
