If the fuel pump relay is unplugged, should the car run at all? Is dielectric grease very important in this plug? The car will start, but won't idle, the only way to keep it running is to keep my foot on the gas, whether the fuel pump relay is plugged in or not. Any idea what the problem could be?
Your car need the FP relay to start the car...once the car is running you oil pressure switch (if it works properly) will keep the FP running....so yes you can remove the FP relay after the car is running and the fuel pump will continue to run as long as the oil pressure switch is closed.
Using the dielectric grease on connections helps ensure electrical continuity and oxidation/corosion is minimized.
Car won't idle could be a # of things.....
Check your car for codes when's the last time you did a tune up? Check or change the air filter...cap...rotor..plug wires...plugs.....clean the TB....check exaust back pressure for clogged CATs. Have your ICM tested....IAC could be dirty or plugged. Do a through fuel pressure check too.
Car will start and run without it if the oil pressure switch works. If your fuel pump relay is shot expect extended cranking time as the pump will not run until it sees pressure from cranking at the oil pressure switch. I'd look elsewhere for your problem.
One thing I notice since this idle problem started, is that when I jump A+B on the ALDL port and turn the key to on, the fan doesn't come on anymore. What would cause that?

with this gentlemans entire post. All those can contribute to a bad idle.
