So, it's my birthday weekend this weekend, and I have taken off from work. I have the heads and cam waiting to go on my car, along with the superram. I have 2 sets of gaskets for the superram...I was wondering if there would be any benefit for a superram with a nearly stock tune? I have a PCM4Less chip after I did the headers, gears, and other misc. parts I added over the years.
I was wondering if it would be worth while to put the superram in, as I do have an extra set of gaskets. This would also let me get a better idea as to the invlovement of putting the intake on when I do the heads and cam.
I just am wondering with this "mild" tune, if there would be any performance gain? Or if it's not even worth trying? I think the only benefit would be becuase I have 4.11 gears, but I dont know if the tune would lean out or be too rich above 5k....
You will have to get new chip when you drop in the new cam.
I'm going to have it dyno tuned when the heads/cam go in.
I just wanted to know if I'd need a new chip with just a superram, as it would be pointless to get a new chip now for just a superram, then dyno tune it with the heads and cam in half a year.
Seems that I dont need a chip...which means I will do the swap this weekend probably.
In my case, on a MAF car, my superram required more tuning than my cam change.
I already had the cam (Comp 503) in the car for about a year and was tuned in for my old ported SLP runners and stock intake base.
Adding just the the SR and bigmouth intake to my existing combination took alot more tuning than I had anticipated for idle and driveability. Probably 30-40 iterations to get it close.

Don't underestimate tuning needs for any change.

Hmmm...conflicting opinions here. I have a speed density car if this makes any difference with needing a tune or not...
My car is an 86 and I had idle issues that needed some tuning after installing a superam. I have an autoprom so it was fairly easy to deal with. I don't know how your set up will be affected, but I would go ahead and install it and see how it runs.
If this is your first time installing a superam, plan on it taking longer than you think.
