Well it looks like I've got a damaged oil ring on the #7 cylinder. My question, can I just take off the head and oil pan to re-ring that piston? I've had this engine out twice already and really don't want to do it again! Thanks :U
The problem is that when you still have the crank in there, will you be able to get complete movement of the hone that you will be using? I only did a ring job one time with the engine in the car. I was helping out a friend and he was short on time. Unfortunatly I don't know how well the rings sealed because his timing chain cover had the lip cut by a previous owner, he didn't have the money to replace it, it puked out all his oil, and then I ended up selling him a car. Seems to me that for some reason when I was gone, only the upper 1/2 of the cyls looked honed. -Matt-
I don't see why you would need to pull the head but I'm not sure if you can get the rod/piston combo out with the crank in there. I wouldn't bother re-honing it.

Yes you can...I have. I am not sure how long it lasted, but it worked fine for at least a few thousand miles before I traded the motor for a stroker. Worked well for the guy who I traded it to also. Somebody is running around with a Black C4 with a Hot-cammed motor that probably runs like a raped ape compared to stock because he sold his car to Automax after I bought his stroker.
