I topped off the fluid level in my 1985 vette as I noticed it was low. When I've reached 30-50 mph, the fluid leaks out through the front of the pan gasket and then onto the exhaust. I have replaced the filter and gasket twice with the same problem occuring.
I am making sure the fluid is at the proper level.
Make sure your pan isn't bent too - no gasket will fix a bent pan - ask me how I know. I replaced my bent stock one with another steel one with built-in drain plug. If you find it is bent, you may be able to salvage it with the appropriate hammer and a flat surface.
Did you remove the old seals from where the filter tube goes in. It's easy to leave the old one in.
If you did, it should be an orange o-ring and be VERY careful pulling it out so you don't scratch the pump bore. Its an easy check while you have the pan off.
I check the fluid on level ground with the engine idling. It's cool at that point and the fluid level is currently very low, only about 1/4" onto the stick. It does look a bit frothy to me.
Yes, I made sure I replaced the orange plastic gasket with the filter. For some reason it still builds up pressure then comes out the pan gasket at the widest spot near the curve. Pan looks ok, no major bends or su

My pan looked fine too, but I knew it had to be bad as it wasn't my new Fel-Pro gasket or improper bolt torque. Replaced the pan and the problem was solved. The new one has a drain in it too and looks quite sharp!
Someone at the corvette clinic mentioned it may be some sort of heat valve/hat on top of the transmission. That it could be melted and not letting out pressure.
Opinions? Or even an idea what that part is called? I dont feel anything uptop like that but would rather not drop the transmission if I dont need too.
I'll look into the pan. It was somewhat difficult to get on and seems to impact the bottom of the filter. Which doesn't seem right as no other car I have had does this.
On the pan thing overtightening the bolts creates a wavey seal area .
If you take the pan off again look down the edge you can see the waves.
Yeah there are some pressure control valves and something could be sticking.
I have used Sea Foam transmission conditioner in 700 R 4 and cleared up stuff stuck from gumming up due to not changing fluid.
These Electronic transmissions have several parts that fail due to shellac forming on sensors and parts that control stuff.
Be careful as many Transmission Shops are greedy or too stupid to correctly diagnose tyranny problems.
They will just overhaul or replace.
My daughter had problems on time with it not going into overdrive and spent nearly 2,000 dollars on an overhaul .
Got it back and it was doing the same thing.
Turned out to be a $28.00 sensor they didn't replace.
Other than slipping and converter problems they are pretty durable.
