I got tired of looking through my very pitted winshield. I decided to go ahead and replace it. I went to body shop that had done some body work on my 96 convetrtible a few years ago. They gave me a price of $580.00. I thought tht was a little high so, I started to look on the internet.
I found a web site www.glass.net. I got three quotes in 2 minutes. $228.56. This was for a aftermarket glass. the OE glass was $30.00 more. I called the company on Friday morning. they said they could be there in the afternoon. I had them come to my house on Saturday morning. Excellent service. Got the car washed on Sunday, no leaks. Anyone looking to replace a winshield, not covered by insurance, Take a look.
I'm having a windshield replaced now & the first price was $310.00 untill they found out they needed to replace the upper weather striping because it could not be removed without damaging it. Insurance is paying so that is a good thing new price $ 540.00.
I am assuming your state doesn't require the insurance company to replace it free with no deductible?
I know in FL, cracks, pits, ANYTHING in the windshield must be replaced, and its 100% free from your insurance company.
I wasn't aware that any state required comprehensive insurance coverage. In most states, liability coverage is all that is required to satisfy the financial responsibility laws.
I shopped locally and had my windshield replaced, with new seals for $180.00, tax included.

I believe it's only on full coverage, you would have no comp with just liability.
The new windshield & A frame rubber is $150.00 its self
In KY, I'm not sure about pitting, but any cracks or breakage in the windshield replacement is covered at no cost, whether you have only liability or full comp.

Also take a look at CentralCoaster's thread about having a C4
windshield replaced by a lowball mobile shop.
There are several threads in C4 Tech with part numbers for the
components required for a WS replacement, along with several
threads about the consequences of half measures.

Liability coverage does not cover any repairs to YOUR car, regardless of the type of damage or cause. Liability insurance covers YOU for the costs to repair damage you or your car causes to others that YOU are liable for.
Also, I have never heard of any state requiring other than liability insurance as part if it's financial responsibility laws.

Yes, I think we all know what "liability only" covers, but state law requires the ins. co's to cover the windshield replacment regardless, it's an exception. I've had three replaced for free, with OEM glass since I started driving. Two of the three times I only had liability coverage. No deductables apply either.
Sort of off the subject, but if you DO have "glass" coverage, then you also can include the Top in that deal. It's not just the windshield, but Any of the glass - side windows, etc. Even tho we all know that the top is really not "glass", a body shop will replace it as such and the insurance coverage will absorb it. Worked for me...
