I just purchased this 87 corvette, it ran fine, just passed emissions and seemed good. Parked it one day , about 3 hours latter it would not start. Cranks but no spark. Any ideas, iv'e checked fuses. Have voltage to coil. But noe spark at plug.
Hope you have a Factory service manual. You may want to pull the ignition control module, take it to any Autozone, they'' test it for free. Just make sure they run it through at least 10 cycles. Another thing you may want to check is the coil.
There is a pickup coil in the bottom of the distributor and its pulses are fed to the spark module inside the distributor. You can get the spark module tested at most auto stores. If good, then I would test the spark coil. If you pulse 12v on the primary wires, you will get a spark on the high voltage terminal. If ok, then check for low resistance on the pickup coil.
Also, look at the rotor. There is a spherical well on the center of the rotor and if you have an open circuit plug wire, a spark can make a carbon path through the well on the rotor and you will get weak/no spark. Look at the rotor carefully. Also look inside the distributor cap for carbon tracks and a broken missing center carbon button.
