On my 87, if I had the intake and heads off, would it be too hard to pull the cam while I'm at it? I see it as this (with the heads/intake/lifters off):
1.) Pull out radiator and pull up A/C Condensor
2.) Take water pump/all pulleys off
3.) Pull timing cover off/timing chain
4.) Pull camshaft out
Installation is probably reverse of removal?
Anyone know from experience? Thanks in advance!
Unbolt engine mounts and jack the engine up an inch to clear the crossmember with the cam.
Unless the l98 sits about a foot lower than the LT1 the cam hitting the cross memeber shouldn't be a problem. What is a problem is getting the crank hub off. If you can get the timing chain cover off you shouldn't have any trouble from there.
Re: Question on Cam Installation... (Nathan Plemons)
Sounds good! I've had the complete intake and all the pulleys off on my 85, and it was a cinch! Wow, looks like my car will be getting in the low 12's MAYBE high 11's before summer!
