Alright guys, so I have a 92 auto coupe that I would like to turn into a six speed car. What do I need to know to make this a successful swap? I would like it to perform like it was a factory item,no Frankenstein anywhere. what do I need? Different driveshaft? Different ECU? are the wires there or is there a wiring harness that I need to change out? any help would be appreciated.
Clutch/flywheel
transmission
driveshaft
c-beam
factory clutch pedal setup (bolts right in)
moving the two wires (purple and yellow if my memory is right) from the shifter switch to the clutch pedal safety switch.
shift console and shift boot
cut out the dip in the transmission tunnel from the auto shifter and properly make the area flat with the correct shifter hole.
I had an IROC-Z that was a 5 speed and I wanted to convert it to automatic. I found another guy on the third gen board that wanted to go the other way and we swapped everything between the two cars. We both got what we wanted for free.

Anyone interested in trading? either car for car or tranny for tranny? I would be willing to do all the work. thanks anesthes for the link.
Most of the six speeds that are available around here are way over what my car is worth. I have a # 4 car due to failing clearcoat. the previous owner never garaged the car and lived in eastern washington which has very high highs, and very low lows. unless I can find a six speed that is in similar condition, it is out of my price range.

Just convert it. It's easy.
The "just buy another car" argument pops up all the time around here. Only about 10% of the guys around here do their own mechanical work. 90% wax 'n shine.
It doesn't seem that bad of a swap, I even think there is a tranny for sale on these boards. At least it doesn't seem like something I couldn't do, and I am a pretty average mechanic who doesn't get paid for mechanicing anything. Flywheels are expensive though, but that brings me to a question, when you, meaning people that have done it, need to replace one do you bite the bullet and buy an aftermarket dual force flywheel, assuming you can't clean and reuse the one you got, or do you replace it with something else?

I'm using a singlemass flywheel, an unsprung clutch, and a ZR1 pivot stud to make up the geometry.
A 16lbs steel singlemass SFI approved flywheel is under $160
I have all the parts you will need, as I was going to do this myself. I bought a different car, so I no longer need them. I can shoot you pics of what you will need - if that helps.
It is very easy - don't let the pay-someone-else-to-do-it guys discourage you! Working on our cars is half the fun!!

People like us get hatemail from these guys. You know you absolutely destroyed that car by putting the big block in it, right? I mean, it was a SIN. Don't you know, the car is supposed to be STOCK! What will the NCR judges think!?!?!?
Depending on what kind of power you're putting out, or how hard you plan on driving it...
The six-speed cars came with the D44 rear end, instead of the D36 the automatics had. If you plan on getting on it, then I'd also budget to upgrade the rear.
