I only run top tier gas from Chevron or Shell, I avoid the cheaper mystery gas from the bargin stations. I'm not sure if that really helps, but I've been told Chevron gas has Techron that helps to keep the injectors clean.
I run top tier gas myself. There are a million concoctions that claim to keep injectors clean and each company, Chevron, BP, Shell, etc claim the same thing. Unfortunately, the testing seems to prove otherwise. Every 3 years, I check and every 3 years there is an improvement in the "after" vs the "before" and every so often, I bench check them personally before sending them out to verify that the person doing the test is really doing the job.
The friend that gave my son the car always bought the cheapest gas he could find - so I'm assuming that didn't help with keeping the fuel system clean. I'm going to buy a manual for the car and read up on repairs - hopefully I will be able to learn enough to do my own repairs on the car.

LT1 is supposed to be an easy job for injectors. I would have the others checked to see if they are just dirty or not. Also have the failed injector recovered and send it out to see what is wrong. I have used FIC for the work before and had good results. YMMV as they say
I got the car back and it runs like a bat out of hell. it runs way better than it did all weekend. They verified that all the stuff my buddy said he did was done and done correctly. They also smogged it so I can register it tomorrow. Now I need to buy a manual for it - does anyone have a preference for a novice mechanic?

It isn't there but if you have to get someone to do work for you, shop around for the place's book time. If everyone says 3 hours and one shop says 1-2 hours, RUN LIKE HELL. You don't want the cheapest or the most expensive unless they are a speciality shop with an excellent reputation. So if Lingenfelter or Rippie or something like that wants more per hour, to a point, yes. Joe Schmoe's garage, go fawk yourself is my answer.
Place's book time? I googled it but could not find it. I will goggle some more.
Not sure what they call it. I have heard it called "Book Time" or "Flat Rate". That is the time a mechanic should do the job in. So if an oil change has a flat rate of 3 hours and the tech does it in 1 hour, he gets paid 3 hours. OTOH, if he takes 6 hours, he is paid only 3.
So when I go get an oil change and they look up the book and say "This job takes 3 hours", that is 3 times their hourly rate of say $100. This means you are paying $300 for the oil change plus materials (oil, filter, lube). As such, if we are all using the same book, we should charge about the same time. If a shop doesn't want to do the job (don't know how or stupid or just plain lazy), they might quote you 5 hours for the oil change that others are saying will take 3 hours. This tells you they are either not wanting to do the job or trying to shove it up your butt with a red hot poker.
I'm going to Youtube the oil change on the 1992 to see how hard it is. I usually do that in my other cars, motorcycles, and truck. I have a lot of tools - I just needed the book to see how to do stuff on the Cotvette.

IT WAS AN EXAMPLE. It shouldn't be that hard UNLESS He Man and the Masters of the Universe put the oil filter and drain plug on.
