I am no expert but I have checked in to doing this mod many times!! I have heard you can't use it because of the knock sensor. only one person I have spoken with has used it and it was the quiet one and said it works. Everyone has discouraged me for years on putting that on my c4 vettes!

My question is if my knock sensor is picking up a false knock will this cause my car to not want to run correctly

It could be. Connect a scanner, and observe the knock counts.

Kinda defeats the purpose of the knock sensor, though, doesn't it?

Gear drives cause problems for the knock sensor, and you should not disconnect the knock sensor because then you wont have any way of saving things if a problem occurs with type of fuel or timing being thrown off.
