Default Shake down run/all is good...mostly

Well today i finished the exhaust, filled the fluids, set the timing and took the 88 out for its break in/shake down cruise. The new zz4 sounded great, and pulled decent. The Pete K. tranny with torque converter shifted nicely. But DAMN!!!! After i parked it I noticed water seeping from under the intake on the passenger rear side of the motor, right where the water passage is. Is it possible a retorque of the bolts will cure this? There is no water in my oil or visca versa. There is a couple of other things like the car now idles high, around 1700 rpm, and my fans all of a sudden dont work. All in all I'm happy to have it running again after 2 years.

I believe in work on one problem at a time....but in this case addressing one problem might fix 2. Were the the faces of the intake, heads and deck super clean when you bolted them up? If you are leaking coolant and have a high idle you could be looking at a gasket problem @ the intake.

Yes, all were spotless clean. I torqued all bolts to spec, even double checking. I thought about retorquing, but I'll have to pull plenum and runners off to do that. I might as well pull the intake too, and replace the gaskets if i have to go that far.

For the fans -- do you have the wheel well in, that has the relay on it? Is it connected?

Been there done that, scared the hell out of me to watch the temps climb like that.

Wheel well is in. When I first put battery in and started up the fans worked. Now nothing. I'll just have to start looking for the cause.

I put just a light coat of black RTV around the water passages of the gasket only and have never had an issue with leaking. It may not be necessary but it just makes me feel better
