You ever check out my old singleplane thread from 2004?

I had a perfectly ported base, slp runners, plenum. Car was very consistent. I sold it and built a singleplane out of a holley carb manifold. Car picked up 10mph every pass.

Based on years of tinkering with TPI engines I grew to hate them. No matter how much money you throw at them in regards to runners, porting, better base, etc they're still garbage. My own tests prove what everyone before me (and after me) said. Start fresh with a good intake. Of course like many others before me I had to try it for myself. But at least when I quote tech it's not from a magazine, it came out of my shop.

Keep in mind, a majority of my builds have been forced induction. I really enjoy the small cam boosted combos over a large cam n/a engine. Manners and tons of power is where it's at.

Not understanding why the miniram did not work well for you? Care to shed some light on it?

No way that i can get those HP numbers with my TPI unit
just adding a better cam and those magic heads ?

So,i will have to lookout for a intake swap ?
How about my TPI with edelbrock hi-flo base and runners ?
its a no-no ?

How about a Super ram ?

How about a Mini ram ?

How about a Modified LT1 intake to fit my L98 ?

What's the advantage of each one ? Pro's an Con's ?

i think i have to do the intake to get those cool numbers
Please guys enlight my day,i have a tpi to assemble today

thanks

To get 500 HP out of a 355 is going to be difficult or impossible without a power adder or reving it to 7000 RPM. I am not sure what kind of bottom end you have in the engine but it must be strong enough to handle 7000 RPM pulls. A mini ram and LT1 intake will be able to support those power levels but you will need supporting parts to make that kind of power. (Good heads, solid roller cam, 11:1 or higher compression, and low restriction exhaust).

When I look at you profile it does not appear to me that your lower end is up to the task.

Just kind of breaking back into the L98 stuff..but my 97 H&C, Headers, CAI, and Pully LS1 setup (M6) made 430 whp (500bhp) @6500 rpms....346cid.

Now I know there are a lot of efficiency differences between the motors...but

Can I not stick a miniram, headers, heads, cam, and pully on and not expect good results with an L98? I would be happy just getting 350 whp (400+bhp) with a bolt on 350 L98 and the mods I just outlined...is it not worth it?

Thanks

Easily done and then some Shinobi. Good aftermarket heads close the gap some between the 2 motors.

If you are looking for 350 RWHP then it can be done with a near stock bottom end becuase you will not have to rev it higher then 6000 RPM. The 350 RWHP goal can be done with the Mini ram, LT1 intake, or the superram intake, good heads, and cam combined with good exhaust.
